Meet CDA Ashley Parker ’14

Salut! My name is Ashley Parker and I am working in the Center for Career Development this year as a Career Development Ambassador (CDA). I am a French and Francophone Studies major with a Medical Humanities Concentration and am on the Pre-Medicine track. I am from Warwick, RI and am involved in the French Club, Equestrian Team, and Bioethics Society on campus.

If you have not yet heard of the CCD’s Job Shadowing Program then you should check it out here! The Job Shadowing Program is offered over winter break and allows students the opportunity to spend time with an alumni or Davidson parent volunteer at work. Shadowing opportunities can be one day or over the course of a couple of days during break. Observation and conversation during this experience allow participating students to consider potential careers, receive advice, and see a day in the life of a professional with a Davidson connection. Last year we had over 260 hosts! Students can apply October 23-November 6, 2013.

This was a pretty crazy summer for me! I was back home in Rhode Island working as a research assistant in Pediatrics Research at Women & Infants Hospital. I was mostly working on one project called the Infant Brain Study in which the principal investigators are studying how the timing of the clamping of the umbilical cord affects the development of a baby’s brain. It was such an interesting experience and definitely affirmed my interest in the research side of medicine. I also took two physics classes and led the second grade in Vacation Bible School at my church. All in all, a very full summer!

Do you have any questions about the Job Shadowing Program or other opportunities in the Center for Career Development? Feel free to visit us on the 2nd floor of the Union or shoot me an email at asparker@davidson.edu. Hope to see you around!
